A court in Munshiganj sentensed life imprisonment to Sumaiya (25) for the murder of her son Yashin (8).
Judge Khaleda Yasmin Urmi of the Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court of Munshiganj announced the verdict on Tuesday (November 7) afternoon.
The court's bench assistant Hasan Sarwardi said that the accused has been sentenced to life imprisonment under section 302 and fined one lakh taka or serve another one year.
According to the information of the case, Arif Hossain Hira, the son of Md. Habibullah Shikdar of Razdia village of Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj, a civil member of the army, divorced his first wife Rita Akhtar and married Sumaiya Akhtar (25) for the second time.
Md. Yashin used to live in village house in Razdia of Sirajdikhan Upazila with his stepmother Khatak Sumaiya Akhter and grandmother due to his service in the army.
On June 11, 2017, around 10:30 in the morning, his mother Jeevan Nessa told him on her mobile phone that her son Yasin had fallen into the water near the house and died. On the same day, the dead body of Yashin was sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy.
Later, when he suspected his wife's behavior, he interrogated his wife Mosammat Sumaiya Akhtar, who confessed that on June 11, at around 9:30 a.m., on the bed in her living room, Yasin disturbed her and then she strangulated him to death.
She killed him and then threw the body in a nearby sink filled with water on the east side of the house. Later in this incident, the victim’s father said that Arif Hossain Hira filed a case at Sirajdikhan police station as the plaintiff.
The court sentenced the killer Sumaiya Akhtar to life imprisonment and a fine of one lakh taka.
