'Juvenile delinquency' has surpassed all previous records in Rajshahi city as well as in surrounding upazilas and is turning beyond control day to day. Steps should be taken to curb the crimes.
The unpolished, non-refined, ill- political culture and support from the political leaders were main cause of spreading crimes in the district, opined some Social Psychologists.
Mehbuba Kaniz Keya, a professor of the Psychology department of Rajshahi University, said that no special care is taken to the juveniles by their guardians at home while they grow up. Those children were not getting their parents in close quarters as they are failing to manage time for them resulting not satisfactory mental and physical growth. Most of the parents' expectation from their children is beyond their capacity. As a result, those children were suffering from utter disappointment and mental pressure, she added.
Many juvniles were resorting to drugs and various criminal activities to get rid of such extra pressure. The victim of recent gang-culture was the college student Fardin Isna Asaria Rabbi, 18, son of Mozaffar Ali of village Mominpur under Parabatipur upazila of Dinajpur district. On August-6 early morning Rabbi was going to avail train from his dormitory at Hatem Khan. Whenever he reached near Bornali crossing, a mugger hit him on the head with a sharp weapon. Rabbi died on the spot.
Police on Saturday arrested the Ranak, 23, son of Kudrat Ali of Hatemkhan Chhoto Masjid area. He informed, he was a hardcore drug addict and to manage money for drug, he stabbed and killed Rabbi. However, he said, he did not have any acquaintance with Rabbi before.
During last one year, there were several incidents of mugging in the city. RMP police has prepared a list of the muggers of various areas, most of whom are young and juveniles. Some of the juvenile muggers are Murad of Luxmipur Vatapara, Sujon of Bulanpur. Sujon of Ghosepara, Shimul and Sony of Chandipur, Bappi of Hatemkhan, Saodagar of Bilsimla Bondhogate, Dollar and Miju of Bahrampur, Shakil of Sheikhpara, Joy of Terokhadia Madhyapara and Maruf of Terokhadia Dabtola. Most of the said muggers are offsprings of rich persons.
Meanwhile, incidents of teasing of girls, mainly school and college girls, were also increasing alarmingly in Rajshahi. Many wicked and vagrants are seen to throng in front of girls schools and colleges including at Rajshahi Government Girls School, Rajshahi PN Girls School, Luxmipur Girls School, Sabitri Girls School, Rajshahi Mohila College and even Rajshahi University and Rajshahi college. They used to sexually harass the girl students. There are incidents of rapes and ultimate suicide of the rape victim by the wickeds in the city.
Smartphone culture among young and juveniles is another cause of increase of sexual harassment and rape. By using smartphones, underaged young men and girls are being addicted to pornography. As a result, smart phone culture was also destroying the humanitarian and religious values, tradition, and norms of the society.
Iftekahyer Alam, Addtional Superintendent of Police of Rajshahi sadar informed, there is no observation regarding juvenile delinquency and there is no record related to juvenile delinquency.
