Coronavirus infection is on the rise in neighboring India and the infection might increase in Bangladesh as well, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque.

He made the statement while addressing a function on the occasion of National Nutrition Week-2022 at the auditorium of the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) on Sunday.

The Health Minister said, “It can be said there is almost no infection in the country at present. However, according to the world situation, there is a risk of a resurgence of infection. The infection is on the rise in India and many people are traveling there. They should be monitored after returning to the country.”

Referring to the fact that about 130 million people in the country are now vaccinated, the minister said that many developed countries in the world have not been able to vaccinate so many people.

Zahid Maleque said “The health sector has improved tremendously in the last 10 years. Nutrition is essential for this. There has been a lot of improvement in nutrition services in our country. The government has brought health services to the doorsteps of the people through community clinics in primary health care.”

He said that attention must be given to what we are eating.

“Infectious diseases including tuberculosis, polio, malaria and AIDS are under control. On the other hand, non-communicable diseases that are associated with the human diet and lifestyle are on the rise. We need to eat in moderation,” he added.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Lokman Hossain Mia and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) ABM Khurshid Alam were present at the ceremony, among others.
