With a fresh vow for state reform the journey of the new interim government led by chief adviser Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus begins. The main task of the new government should be to take appropriate steps to ensure law and order, recover financial damages, and focus on developing people’s livelihood immediately.
The autocratic government system has collapsed amid the students’ movement. As per the commitments with the people, the interim government must reform the whole system in keeping with the sentiment of students.
We want to take the country a long way under the leadership of Dr Muhammad Yunus. All will have to move with a cool head to restore the country’s democratic system, peace, and law and order. There should be no violence or conflict anywhere.
The commitments that Dr Muhammad Yunus and the students have given to the general people should be followed strictly. The people of the country have extended their all-out support to the students’ movement that compelled the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government to step down putting an end to her 15 years and six months dominating the country’s politics. We need to increase our focus against mischief in the future. We do not want to see politics of vengeance as this increases the level of public isolation. We believe Dr Muhammad Yunus is steadfast in discharging the responsibilities entrusted to him.
Move with a cool head to restore
the country’s democratic system,
peace, and law and order
For overall qualitative change in the state system and turning the country into a democratic state, we believe the interim government will do everything to bring a positive change to the country. Bangladesh was born with the dream of establishing democracy, equality, human dignity, and social justice through the Liberation War in 1971.
We are now seriously concerned by the deadlock of the academic life of students and alarmed by the long-term impact on students and educational institutions. Therefore, the interim government should restore academic activities at all educational institutions as early as possible.
The interim government should have to annul all black laws, and all other laws that help snatch basic human rights. The interim government should also cancel various black and take measures to stop corruption. All want to see that they (the interim government) will investigate organised money laundering and corruption for the last 15 years and six months and to publish a white paper in this regard.
They should take legal action against the persons identified in the white paper and to bring back the money siphoned off abroad.
The interim government should ensure fair wages for workers in the light of inflation, providing unemployed educated youths alongside increasing the age limit for entry into government jobs in accordance with international norms. Measures should also be taken for ensuring fair prices of agriculture products and giving farmers different facilities, developing agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors and giving incentives to export-oriented agro-processing industries.
No terrorist activity will be tolerated and pampered on the territory of Bangladesh. Strict action must be taken against terrorists, militancy, and extremism. Everyone should come forward to ensure communal harmony and security of minorities and protect government properties as well.
We all must play an effective role in keeping the country’s academic activities, economy, administration, and industries running smoothly.
