The Bangladesh Startup Summit 2023 concluded with a flourish of achievements and promises for the nation’s budding entrepreneurs. The two-day event, held at the prestigious Hotel InterContinental Grand Ballroom, witnessed significant developments aimed at bolstering the startup ecosystem.

One of the most notable highlights of the summit was the inauguration of the India-Bangladesh Startup Bridging Portal. This portal is expected to foster collaboration and synergy between startups in both countries, opening new avenues for growth and partnerships.

In a move to provide financial support to emerging startups, the government announced the establishment of a multi-crore Fund of Funds. This fund is designed to fuel the dreams of young entrepreneurs by providing them with access to much-needed capital and resources to bring their innovative ideas to life.

The summit showcased the services and offerings of the top startups in Bangladesh, shedding light on the country's burgeoning talent and potential. With sessions focusing on fintech, Edtech, Healthtech, and Agritech, participants were exposed to cutting-edge advancements in these critical sectors.

As a testament to the success and progress of youth-led initiatives, the Youth Co-Lab Champion was awarded to Palki Motors, with Dream Water and We Grow entrepreneurs securing the first and second runner-up positions,

respectively.

During his speech as the Chief Guest, the Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Advisor, Salman Fazlur Rahman, emphasized the importance of facilitating foreign investment in unlisted companies. He assured that steps would be taken to ensure easy repatriation of income earned from such investments, thereby incentivizing foreign investors and eliminating potential concerns.

Furthermore, the Investment Advisor expressed optimism about the future of Startup Bangladesh, applauding the youth for their inspiring innovations. He highlighted the government's commitment to developing rural areas by extending fiber optic cables to the district level, paving the way for advancements in Health-tech and Agri-tech within villages.

ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak announced that the Bangladesh Startup Summit would become an annual event starting from next year, with the Prime Minister's approval. This decision reflects the government's dedication to nurturing the startup ecosystem and promoting entrepreneurship in the country.

Speaking as the President of the summit, Palak lauded the Prime Minister's three critical initiatives: the inauguration of the Bangladesh-India Startup Bridge, the establishment of the multi-crore Fund of Funds, and the introduction of the Smart Bangladesh Accelerator. These initiatives are set to be the driving force behind the growth and prosperity of startups in Bangladesh.

Sami Ahmed, the Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh, expressed his enthusiasm for the overwhelming response received during the first-ever summit. With 72 investors and 3,000 entrepreneurs from various countries participating, he believes that the platform has provided the youth with invaluable opportunities. Ahmed expressed hopes of organizing an even larger summit in the following year.

The closing ceremony also saw contributions from Samsul Arefin, Chairman of Startup Bangladesh and Secretary of ICT Division, and Van Guen, Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts in realizing the full potential of Bangladesh's startup ecosystem.
