Stars we lost in 2020

National Film Award winning composer, music director and vocalist Azad Rahman passed away on May 16 this year. Azad Rahman was 76 years old. He has sung many songs including ‘Janma Amar Dhanya Holo Ma Go’, ‘Bhalobashar Mullo Koto’, ‘O Chokhe Chokh Poreche Jokhoni’, ‘Moner Ronge Rangabo’, ‘Dora Kata Dag Dekhe Bagh Chena Jay’.

Legendary musician Andrew Kishore, the country's 'playback king', has left us forever. He breathed his last at his sister Dr Shikha Biswas' house in Mahishabathan area of Rajshahi metropolis on July 6 at 7:13 pm. He was 65 years old. The eight-time film award-winning artist has been suffering from brain cancer for a long time.

In 1977, Andrew Kishore started his playback journey in the movie 'Mail Train' with the song 'Achinpurer Rajkumari Nei Je Keu Tar'. Then he did not have to look back. His popular songs include: 'Jiboner Golpo Baki Ache Olpo', 'Hayre Manush Rongin Fanush', 'Dak Diyeche Dayal Amare', 'Amar Sara Deho Kheyo Go Mati', 'Amar Buker Moddhokhane' and many more.

Alauddin Ali, the legendary composer and music director of the subcontinent, died on 9 August this year. He died at the hospital at 5.50 pm on Sunday. Alauddin Ali had been suffering from pneumonia and blood infection for a long time. He was first taken to Bangkok on July 3, 2015. After examination there, it was found that he had a tumour in his lung. He was then undergoing treatment for cancer along with other physical problems.

Actress Minu Mumtaz has been suffering from kidney and eye problems for a long time. Eventually she left us forever. She died at the Green Life Hospital in the capital on September 22 at 1pm. The veteran actress died of corona.

Prominent producer and director Motiur Rahman Panu died on March 24 at 11:20 pm. He died at his home in Uttara, the capital. Panu, the producer and director of  'Moner Majhe Tumi' has been suffering from various diseases due to old age for a long time.

The song 'Pakhir Bashar Moto ChokhTomar, Thik Jeno Natorer Banalata Sen' sung by Khurshid Alam and Runa Layla in 'Jighangsa' was very popular in the seventies. Nayak Wasim and Jaba Chowdhury sang this song on the screen. Jaba Chowdhury’s family name is Jobaida Khatun. Jaba died at his home in Chirirbandarupazila of Dinajpur on May 3 this year. She was buried there.

Actor KS Feroze died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital on September 9 at 6.20 am after being infected with corona.The news of the death of another great actor hit usbefore we could recover from the death news of KS Firoz properly. Actor Sadek Bachchu died of corona on September 14. He breathed his last at the Universal Medical College Hospital in the capital at 12:05 pm that day.

Veteran actor, director Aly Jaker has said goodbye after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 76 years old. The legend died at 6:40 am on November 27 while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital in Dhaka. From the seventies to the nineties, Aly Jaker has taken a permanent seat in the hearts of the audience for his performances on stage and television. The shadow of mourning has descended on the death of this Ekushey Medal winning playwright.

Popular musician Selim Ashraf died on March 2. He had been suffering from shortness of breath and kidney complications for a long time. Ashraf, the composer of several popular songs, including ‘Jei Matir Buke Ghumiye Ache Lakho Mukti Shena’.

Towards the end of the year the list of the stars we lost became even bigger. Popular actor Abdul Kader passed away at 8:20 am on December 26 after losing the battle with cancer.
