Due to the sudden heavy downpour on the public holiday the capital's kitchen markets witnessed fewer buyers despite the downward price trend of some essentials.
Prices of a few vegetables and chicken are decreasing while rest prices of rest of the essentials remain as before. Such situation was noticed on Friday while visiting a few kitchen markets in the city.
For the last few days, price of sonali variety of chicken is showing a down trend. It is being sold at Tk 250 to Tk 280 per kilogram (kg). However, it was selling at Tk and 300 above last week. On the other hand, broiler chicken price remain same as last week. It is being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 160 per kg.
A trader at Fakirapool kitchen market, Rafiqul, said, “Sonali chicken supply is adequate in the market. As the Eid ul Adha is nearing, chicken price is going down. It seems price will decrease further.” Meanwhile, vegetables are being sold at quite high prices like last week. Traders are selling one kg of carrots at Tk 150 to Tk 160, per kg of tomatoes is being sold at Tk 70 to Tk 80, yard long bean is being sold at Tk 60 per kg, eggplant is Tk 60 per kg, papaya is Tk 40, pointed gourd, orka, luffa, snake gourd all are being sold at Tk 50 per kg, bitter gourd is being sold at Tk 45 per kg. A trader in Karwan Bazar, Asadullah, while talking to
this correspondent, said, “Vegetable prices is not likely to decline unless winter vegetable arrive in the market”
Traders are selling imported garlic at Tk 150 to Tk 160 per kg. And a kg of local garlic is being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 100. Onion price remains stable. It is being sold per kg at Tk 35 to Tk 40.
Sugar is being sold at Tk 85 per kg in the market. Besides, sugar sold in packets is being sold at Tk 90 per kg. In these markets, locally produced lentils cost Tk 130 to Tk 140 per kg. Indian lentils are being sold at Tk 110. Packet flour is now being sold at Tk 48 to Tk 50 per kg. Loose flour is being sold at Tk 50.
Price of edible oil is rising in the market. The price of per liter oil has gone up by Tk 7. A liter of oil is being sold for Tk 205. One week ago, oil was sold at Tk 198 per liter.
