The ministry has taken the decision as Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) elections have been rescheduled on February 1, which was scheduled to be held on January 30.

More than 20 lakh students are expected to take part in the SSC and equivalent examinations.

Like the previous years, all type of coaching centres will remain closed from January 25 till the end of the examinations.

It has been known that Election Commission on Saturday rescheduled the city polls to February 1 as the previous polls date, January 30, collides with Saraswati Puja.

A good number of people, especially the students of different universities, demanded rescheduling the city polls.

Besides, some Hindu organisations had threatened to boycott the Dhaka city elections if the Election Commission goes ahead with the polls as scheduled on the day of Saraswati Puja.

They urged candidates of all political parties to express solidarity with the demand to reschedule the city elections.

Furthermore, a large number of Dhaka University students went on hunger striker demanding reschedule of city election. All mayoral candidates had also urged the Election Commission to reconsider the polls date as it collides with Saraswati Puja.

Considering all of the circumstances, the Election Commission rescheduled the two city corporation’s election on February 1.
