SS Power Plant is set to commence full-scale electricity supply to the national grid following its official inauguration after Eid-ul-Azha.
The power plant, located at Gondamara, Banshkhali, Chattogram, has began supplying electricity on a trial basis in late May to meet the surging energy demand across the country. Since then, it has consistently provided a maximum capacity of 300 to 500 MW to the national grid.
The power plant temporarily ceased operations on June 8 as planned, initiating the commissioning process for the second unit's production to commence as scheduled.
However, the SS Power Plant authority aims to resume electricity production by approximately June 20 to alleviate the public's suffering from power shortages. Notably, the power plant is expected to contribute a net amount of 1224 MW of electricity to the national grid.
To ensure uninterrupted power generation, the SS Power Plant has already procured an adequate supply of coal for both units. The first shipment is scheduled to arrive by June 18, with another shipment expected later this month.
Md. Ebadat Hossain Bhuiyan, Chief Financial Officer of SS Power Limited, expressed satisfaction with the successful trial run of power generation for the first unit and mentioned that testing and commissioning of the second unit are currently underway. Measures have been taken to ensure a consistent coal supply as fuel.
