Tea garden owners in Shreemangal of Moulavi Bazar district have been depriving the workers for years by breaking the commitments they had made during a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year.

Owners of tea gardens at Hosnabad are also not following the decisions taken during the meetings held between the labour union and the garden authorities at different times.

As the workers are not being provided with their weekly ration and regular wage, they are passing out days without food, which caused anger and dissatisfaction among them.

In the situation, the workers started staging of sit-in programme in front of the main gate of Hosnabad tea garden on

August 26.

They resorted to such demonstration demanding their fair wages and rations.

They are also demanding punitive measures against the tea garden owners for not paying wages and providing of ration/

Pankaj Kondo alleged that the garden owners do not consider the workers as the human beings. They do not pay the regular salaries and ration. “Other facilities are also not being given to us”, he said.

Urmi Binte-Salam, Deputy Commissioner of Moulavi Bazar district, said she would take proper measures immediately by talking to the local UNO.
