‘Squid Game’ actor, Lee Jung-jae, recently teased a storyline for season 2. Created, written, and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game has become a global sensation and one of Netflix’s most popular series of all time. The survival thriller focuses on a deadly contest that involves 456 people from all walks of life who become players in a series of children’s games to win the ultimate cash prize.

Starring Lee, Jung Ho-yeon, Park Hae-soo, Gong Yoo, and Lee Byung-hun, Squid Game has solidified itself as a pop-culture phenomenon. Since the show’s debut back in September of this year, Netflix launched an official Squid Game merchandise line, Squid Game cryptocurrency made headlines, and popular YouTuber MrBeast built a real-life Squid Game set. Despite the series eventually losing its number one spot on Netflix’s charts, it has maintained its popularity and looks to be opening doors for Western K-drama adaptations.

Speaking with People, Lee, who portrayed Player 456 (a.k.a. Seong Gi-hun) teases a storyline for his character in season 2. Revealing that he thinks another installment of Squid Game is inevitable due to the show’s success, Lee says he hopes the story for season 2 delivers a twist. Lee admits he has discussed season 2 with creator Dong-hyuk and reveals that his character, Gi-hun, will return to the arena in the next season of Squid Game.

Squid Game season 1 ended on an ambiguous note, with Gi-hun choosing to attempt to stop the next set of games instead of leaving on a plane to see his family. Of course, Gi-hun returning to the arena could swing both ways and find the protagonist entering the deadly competition once more to sabotage the gameplay, or he becomes the new Front Man in a twisted turn of events. While his involvement in the next round of Squid Game has yet to be revealed, it appears Lee is on board to deliver an unpredictable season 2 as Gi-hun.
