The Speedy Trial Tribunal on Thursday noon awarded a youngman death sentence for slaughtering an oldman in Charghat upazila in 2020.
The death sentence awarded youngman has been identified as Roman Hossain Shetu while Imnul Akwad Shawn, another accused in the case, was acquitted by the court.
Anup Kumar Roy, Judge of STT, Rajshahi, pronounced the judgment at a crowded court on Thursday noon.
It is learnt, on the night of December-13, 2020, Roman Hossain Shetu and his accomplice Imnul Akwad Shaon entered into the house of old man Monsur Rahman at Daulatpur village under Shalua union of Charghat upazila for the purpose of burglary. When Monsur Rahman awakened and tried to resist them, Roman Hossain killed Monsur Rahman by slaughtering.
The next day, son of Monsur filed a murder case with the local police station when police arrested Roman Hossain Shetu and Imnul Akwad Shaon and sent them to jail. The arrested accused made a confessional statement under section 164 to the court. Police submitted the chargesheet of the case after investigation. After hearing and cross examining the witnesses STT Judge Anup Kumar Roy awarded Shetu death sentence and acquitted Shaon.
