Spl anti-mosquito drive from Mar 10

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has said that a special operation would be carried out from March 10 to March 17 to eradicate disease bearing mosquitoes.

The mayor made the remarks after laying a wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the main entrance of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Monday.

Atiqul Islam said that in this historic month of March, concerned officials would be informed that a special operation will be conducted to eradicate disease bearing mosquitoes from March 10 to March 17.

The mayor said that father of the nation had called for independence on March 7, 1971 at the then Racecourse Maidan (ground) and gave instructions to the people of the nation on what to do. Bangabandhu's speech on March 7 is one to cherish as part of the history of the world.

"March is very important for us. This is because, in the month of March, Bangabandhu delivered that inspiring and historic speech. This month is also the birth month of Bangabandhu. Furthermore, the great war of liberation started in March as well.

Selim Reza, Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation, councillors of different wards and senior officials of DNCC were present on the occasion.

Throughout the last year, some 28,368 patients had been admitted to different hospitals due to dengue in the country. Preparations are on-going to minimize the harm caused by the mosquito-prone diseases this year.
