Bangladeshi Muslims have offered special prayers at the first Jumma prayers of the holy month of Ramadan to get rid of the global pandemic. The prayers were offered at various mosques across the country, including the national mosque Baitul Mukarram, on Friday.

Imam Mufti Maulana Mizanur Rahman conducted the prayer at Baitul Mukarram.

Prayers were offered to the Almighty to protect all the countries of the world, including Bangladesh, from the Covid-19 infection and to cure the patients infected with this virus. Those who have been infected with virus, especially in Bangladesh, were prayed for early recovery.

People were instructed to enter the mosque just before the start of the Jummah prayers wearing face masks and maintain social distancing.

However, due to the government restrictions, the number of people in the mosque was relatively low. ‘Khutbah’ (pre-prayer preaching) was also restricted.

Prayers have been performed in the national mosque Baitul Mukarram following the health rules. The worshipers performed the prayers at a distance of three feet from each other.

The mosque was washed and cleaned properly before the prayers. Those who did not wear masks on their faces were provided a mask from the mosque. However, the worshipers were not seen sanitizing their hands in the mosque. No hand sanitizer was provided by the mosque authorities.

However, in some mosques, although everyone wore masks, there was no social distancing.

The Friday prayers started at the mosques between 1pm to 2pm in the afternoon, but many mosques were seemed to be filled to the brim beforehand. Eventually, people stopped the traffic on the road in front of the mosque and offered prayers.

The Sobhanbagh Mosque and the Madrasa Complex Mosque in the capital were full to the inch. Due to the large number of worshipers, it was not possible to maintain safety measures all together.

Such scenarios were seen in many other mosques in the capital. The imam and committee of the mosque said that the instructions given by the government could not be implemented fully due to the number and pressure of the worshipers.
