Special flights for migrant workers will be remain in function while the government has decided to extend the existing lockdown for another week. Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) chairman expressed the hope that the international flights would return to regular activities after the lockdown.

However, other scheduled international flights in and out of the country still remain suspended until April 29 midnight, according to CAAB authorities.

Special flights for emergencies and expatriates will resume functioning for another week under the guidance of the conditions that have already been implemented.

Special flights to countries such as Oman, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore are likely to fly, in order to let thousands of migrant workers return to their workplaces. These workers have been stuck in Bangladesh since April 14 due to the ongoing lockdown.

According to an estimate of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) and Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB), about 20,000 to 25,000 aspiring migrant workers were scheduled to fly in the week starting from April 14.

In the last inter-ministerial meeting, Chairman of CAAB M Mafidur Rahman said that CAAB had proposed to operate flights partially on domestic routes. The matter is currently under consideration and the decision is yet to be declared.

On April 11, all international passenger flights in and out of Bangladesh were suspended for a week starting from April 14 following a government’s decision for an all-out lockdown.
