Speakers for formulating policy for informal sector

Speakers at a workshop have underscored the need for formulating a policy for the informal sector to provide necessary support to the labour forces in the sector.

“Nearly 87 percent labour forces of the country are in informal sector.

About 2 million youths enter the labour market every year, of which about 80 percent are employed in the informal sector,” they informed.

They said this at the workshop on “‘National Workshop on Draft Policy Guideline for the Informal Sector Industries’ was held at the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) auditorium in the city recently.

NSDA Executive Chairman Md Faruque Hossain attended the workshop as the chief guest while Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC)

Chairman M Mostaq Hasan and Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Center (BITAC) Director General Dr M Mofizur Rahman attended it as special guests.

Informal Sector Industry Skills Council (ISISC) Chairman Mirza Nurul Ghani Shovon presided over the programme, said a press release today.

At the workshop, the speakers also informed that ISISC has already prepared a draft outline of policy for the informal sector. For making the policy more effective, they said, ISISC and Action Aid are jointly implementing a project, titled ‘Promoting Decent Employment for Youth and Women (PD4YM)’.
