As productive fisheries and aquaculture improve food and nutrition security and contribute to the national economy, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday emphasized on imparting training to fish cultivators to develop their skill and ensure overall welfare, reports BSS.

“Proper training is essential for the development of fish farmers as the fisheries sector makes the national economy prosperous after meeting our local need,” she said.

She was speaking as the chief guest at a programme of releasing fish fries at the Jatiya Sangsad lake as a part of weeklong programme of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

Today was the fifth day of the week, said a press release.

The “National Fisheries Week-2020” started across the country from July 21 with the theme “Machh Utpadan Briddhi Kori, Shukhi Samriddha Desh Gori (Let us increase fish production and build a happy and prosperous country)”.

In order to further develop the fisheries sector, it is necessary to try to improve the living standard of the fish cultivators by increasing facilities for them, she said.

“Eeveryone must work to enrich the fisheries sector to keep the wheel of the economy running by meeting the domestic nutrition needs”, she added.

Senior Secretary of Parliament Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan presided over the programme while Deputy Speaker M Fazle Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury were present, among others.
