Space Innovation Summit 2019 held at IUB

Aiming to motivate aspirants on space education and to inspire youth in space issues sharing knowledge in aeronautical science, the 2nd Space Innovation Summit 2019 was held on Friday and Saturday at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) at Bashundhara, Dhaka.

ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, as the chief guest, inaugurated the two-day summit, with University Grants Commission (UGC) member. Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Ltd Director Professor Dr Sazzad Hossain was present as special guest. The inaugural session was chaired by IUB Treasurer and Vice Chancellor in-charge, Khandaker Iftekhar Haider. Space Innovation Summit 2019’s chief patron and chief coordinator, Bangladesh Innovation Forum and also NASA’s Solve BD Founder Ariful Islam Apu was present in the inaugural session. 

As many as 1,500 participants participated in the summit where 16 seminars and 2 workshops took place. The seminars were divided in four different sessions, which covered rocket technology, satellite making and communication, robotics for space exploration, and careers at NASA. In the seminars, the enhancement of rocket technology capability and various functions of ground stations were discussed. 

There were two workshops held that include ground station making with satellite tracking and image receiving, and simulation-based rocket making. 

Dr Ashraful Amin, associate professor of CSE department of IUB spoke on Saturday morning about IUB’s mission to join the University Mars Rover Competition in USA both in 2017 and 2018. A session of 50 years celebration of moon landing was held on the same day where Dr Md Abdur Razzak, associate professor, EEE department, IUB presented the stats and trivia of ‘Apollo 11: Mission to the Moon.’

Youths had special attractions in this workshop on rocket making and one-hour segment marking the fifty years of Moon trip. 

IUB and Bangladesh Innovation Forum jointly organised the largest space summit of this region. EEE department of IUB and IEEE IUB Student Branch were the event partners of this summit.
