Sony FX2 brings smarter shooting to compact cinema

Published : 31 May 2025 03:51 PM

Sony is getting ready to launch the FX2, a sophisticated addition to its Cinema Line that is specifically designed for independent filmmakers and hybrid shooters. According to multiple leaks and industry insiders, the FX2 builds on the popular FX3 design with smart, practical upgrades rather than a full redesign.

Key expected features include a tilting electronic viewfinder (EVF) for better ergonomics, 32-bit float audio for pro-level sound recording, and cropped internal 4K at 60 fps—ensuring thermal efficiency without sacrificing quality. Sources suggest the FX2 will retain the FX3/FX30 body, making it compatible with existing cages and accessories.

Analysts say this move strengthens Sony’s strategy of creating a seamless ecosystem across its Cinema Line, offering consistent design, colour science, and usability. As Sony leans into real-world feedback, the FX2 stands out for its thoughtful upgrades. If priced right, it could become the new favourite for solo shooters, content creators, and professionals needing a compact yet capable B-cam.
