The country’s cinema halls were closed for seven long months, first ever in the history of Dhalliwood. There was never such a time when the screens of cinema halls were not lit for so many months. The cinema hall finally opened yesterday.
Mir Akram Uddin Ahmed, director-information and public relations officer of the information ministry, said the permission was given on the condition that at least half of the seats in the cinema halls are to be left vacant, ensuring proper hygiene and social distance in the Covid-19 situation.
According to the Producers and Distributors Association, 24 movies are awaiting release. However, the directors and producers do not want to release new movies due to the Corona epidemic even though the hall opened on October 16.
No application was received for the release of new films in the next two weeks on October 23 and 30.
Movies awaiting release include ‘Makeup’, ‘Jin’, ‘Ustad’, ‘Bishwo Sundari’, ‘Soshurbari Zindabad 2’, ‘Bidrohi’, ‘Unoponchash Batash’, ‘Mission Extreme’, ‘Mission Extreme 2’, ‘Shan’, ‘Poran’, ‘Bikkhob’, ‘Casino’, ‘Anondo Asru’ etc.
Several cinema halls including Shyamoli Cineplex, Madhumita and Balaka are not opening in the capital, yet. However, it is learned that several cinema halls including Anondo, Chitramahal and Geet are opening. Besides, films will be shown on one of the seven screens of Jamuna Blockbuster Cinema. And all the branches of Star Cineplex will be reopened from 23rd of October.
An official directive was issued to close the cinema hall from March 16. For months now, filmmakers have been appealing to the government to open a cinema hall. Despite that permission, not all halls are open at the moment.
