A section of local Awami League leaders and activists allegedly working in favor of some rebel candidates instead of party’s candidates, violating party’s discipline, even some are constantly forcing ward level AL president, secretary to work in rebel’s favor following upcoming union Parishad election scheduled to be held on next January 5 in 5th phase.
Contacted Hasina Dowla, President of Awami League, Savar Upazila Committee said, to work against party’s candidates is similar to violating party discipline, so the action will be taken if any verity found of this allegation.
Sohel Rana, Chairman of Savar Sadar union Parishad, and the AL nominated candidate in upcoming polls alleged, Mazharul Islam Rubel, general secretary of recently formed Sadar union Awami league committee, along with some other local leader and activists, directly and indirectly working and campaigning in favor of Advocate Abdul Awal, General Secretary of Sramik League, Savar thana committee, who becomes rebel chairman candidate from this union violating party disciplinary rules.
However, when contacted refusing the allegation Mazharul Islam said he constantly campaigning for all AL nominated candidates. Notably, Mazharul Islam Rubel is a brother in law of Manjurul Alam Rajib, Upazila Chairman and the General Secretary of Awami League, Savar Upazila committee, and this is the first time Rubel gets the post; was not involved with any committee of Awami League or any of its associate organization earlier.
On the other hand, Parvez Dewan, Chairman of Pathalia union Parishad and the AL nominated candidate said, some local Awami League leaders and activists directly supporting rebel candidates, even participating rebel candidate’s campaign. However, he did not reveal anybody’s name saying that he already informed senior leaders regarding the issue.
Seeking anonymity, several ward members of Savar Sadar union Parishad alleged; Manjurul Alam Razib, Upazila Chairman and the General Secretary of Upazila Awami league, and his brother in law Majharul Islam Rubel working against boat symbol, instead of supporting AL candidates. This already makes feud among party leaders and activists.
However, Bangladesh Post correspondent could not reach Manjurul Alam Razib for comment, despite making multiple phone calls and messages.
