Solar street lights installed on BRUR campus

The authorities of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) on Monday installed ten solar street lights at separate places on the campus aiming at popularizing use of renewable sources of energy, reports BSS.

Vice-chancellor of BRUR Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah with assistance of the engineers and technicians concerned launched installation of the solar street lights from university’s own resources in the first phase. Solar street lights were installed around the university administration building, entrance points to the campus, different academic buildings, central library and cafeteria, student halls, Vice-chancellor’s residence and dormitories of the teachers and officers.

Assistant Engineer (Electrical) of the university Engineer Md. Ahsanul Habib, teachers and officials concerned were present on the occasion. Regarding installation of the solar street lights on the campus, Vice- Chancellor Professor Kalimullah said renewable solar energy produces environment-friendly electricity. “As a result of installation of solar street lights, the availability of electricity supply will increase in the evening and at night, it will also add a newer dimension to the safety and security on the campus of the university,” Kalimullah said.

In the future, more solar street lights would be installed to illuminate the campus with uninterrupted power supply to create comfortable environment for students, teachers, officials and employees of the university, he added.
