Renewable energy is the future of our country and vigorous investment is now needed to increase the sustainability of this sector. It is time to reduce the use of non renewable energy and put more focus on renewable. To make the investment in this sector more sustainable, we need to discover new technology and reduce the amount of land needed for solar power in various sectors, which include investment in power or wind to power project.
In that continuity, the solar net metering system (SNMS) is gaining more popularity across the country with a total of 1488 SNMSs having capacity of 34.26 megawatt peak (MWp) of electricity already installed, and counting.
We must not only move ahead swiftly with our development
projects, but we must do it in a sustainable
and environmentally accountable way
This metering system will establish mechanism to integrate distributed renewable energy to grid. Prosumers can connect their renewable energy systems to the grid. Consumers can generate their own electricity and reduce electricity bills by lowering dependency on national grid. It will not only reduce carbon emission but also will make us less dependent on imported fossil fuel.
The whole world is now going for renewable energy. The Bangladesh government is also interested in this regard. Several initiatives such as implementation of solar net metering policy, installation of solar mini grid, home system and irrigation pumps etc. have been taken.
