Bangladesh Cricket Board have decided to rest T20I skipper Mahmudullah from the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. Nurul Hasan will lead the T20I side in his absence.

BCB boss Nazmul Hasan had recently said that the board would sit Mahmudullah down to discuss his immediate future after the senior batter’s prolonged lean patch both as player and captain. The BCB honchos sat with Mahmudullah in a city hotel on Friday (July 22) and later disclosed the decision to rest their regular T20I skipper.

“We have decided that Nurul Hasan will lead the side in the upcoming T20Is,” Khaled told reporters after the meeting.

“It is not that Sohan will lead the team in the World Cup. We felt the T20 squad should make a new start as they are not performing well and we want the new guys to express them,” he said.

Along with Mahmudullah, experienced keeper-bat Mushfiqur Rahim too hasn’t made the T20I squad although both of them are included for the three-match ODI series that follows the T20Is. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has opted to skip the Zimbabwe tour but he may take over captaincy duties in the shortest format come Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, Hasan Mahmud was also included for the ODIs while Ebadot Hossain failed to keep his place.
