Social distance a far cry in Shailkupa

When the government has been given directives to district and upazila administration and other parts of the country to maintain social distance, the administration in Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah has failed to maintain the directives.

Huge people, both male and female have been gathering in the markets. The situation was graved following the Eid marketing where it has been hampering the movement on the roads, although the municipality authorities have announced to remain the shops and business establishments open from 10 AM to 4PM every day.

When the Bangladesh Post correspondent visited the upazila town on Tuesday, witnessed that there was no sign and symptom of maintaining social distance during marketing and movement on the roads. People have been almost jumping on another during purchasing of goods.

The over-crowded situation was witnessed at cosmetics, garments, shoe and other markets as Pilot school market, Janata bank market, Madina super market, Lalan super market, Alhajj market, Bridge road market and even on the footpath markets.

Neither the sellers, nor the buyers have been obeying the guidelines of maintaining social distances. Most of them are also not using mask and handglves which is most risky during the expansion of deadly corona virus throughout the country.

When the media men contacted upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) in Shailkupa Saiful Islam, he did not show eagerness to express his version over the burning issue. He rather said he had handed over the responsibility to officer in charge (OC) of Shailkupa police station. He (OC) has been supervising the overall situation.

OC of Shailkupa police station Bazlur Rahman when contacted said the law enforcers including police men have been working as per the advice of the UNO.
