Smuggler held from Satkhira border with pistol, bullets, silver jewellery

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested a smuggler named Tariqul Islam along with a foreign pistol, three rounds of bullet and Indian silver jewellery weighing about two kilogrammes from Bhadiyali border in Satkhira.

The smuggler was arrested along with the goods from the south Bhadiyali border of Kalaroa upazila on Friday morning.

Arrested Tariqul Islam is the son of deceased Lutfar Rahman of Dakkhin Bhadiyali village in Kalaroa upazila.

Satkhira 33 BGB captain Lt. Col. Ashraful Haque said a BGB patrol team led by Nayeb Subedar Abu Taher Patwari of Kakdanga BOP was there on the basis of secret information that a group of smugglers were entering Bangladesh illegally with arms, ammunition and silver jewellery from India through the South Bhadiyali border of Kalaroa Upazila. 

At that time, smuggler Tariqul Islam was arrested red-handed along with an American pistol, three rounds of bullet, a magazine and 1.99 kgs of Indian silver jewellery. Meanwhile, another smuggler, Abdul Goffar, escaped. 

According to the BGB captain, there are four drug cases against Tariqul Islam and two arms cases against the absconding Goffar.

He also said a case has been filed against Tariqul, who has been handed over to Kalaroa Police Station, and another accused Goffar. Besides, the seized silver jewellery has been deposited to Satkhira Treasury Office.
