Smooth supply of essentials is a must to locked down people

 Quarantined or locked down families who are infected with coronavirus symptoms are compelled to take the help of their relatives to reach essentials to them as they are not getting government’s food supports. There has been allegation that, even after trying for hours, concerned families or people are unable to connect with the government’s hotline numbers introduced to provide emergency food aid.

In the meantime, around 55 areas of the capital have been locked down. If any suspicious case related to coronavirus is found anywhere, the authorities are immediately locking down the concerned area. On Monday, following the cabinet meeting, it was ordered to lock down an entire area, if any coronavirus patient is found there.

Visiting the capital’s Sutrapur area it was found that, an air of panic is sweeping the whole area following the lockdown of four buildings there. It was learned that around hundred families are living there. They are not allowed to go out. According to Sutrapur Police Station information, following the death of a 60-year old man with coronavirus symptoms at Happy Tower on Nondolal Lane, they locked down the whole building to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Gradually they locked down three more buildings of that area, these buildings will remain locked down for the next 14 days.

An inhabitant of Happy Tower said, “As we are suddenly locked down, we didn’t even have a chance to buy essential commodities for a few days. When we tried to reach the government hotline numbers, we found those engaged hours after hours”.  “Now we are taking the help of our relatives, they are bringing essentials for us and leaving those at our building gates, and from there we are collecting those”, he added.

Meanwhile, it was also found that delivering goods to people during the lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak is being hindered as concerned online shops are facing delivery men shortage. Movement from warehouses has become intermittent and with no truckers and handlers, transportation of goods has been stalled.

According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) information, so far they have locked down a building at Arjatpara, a portion of Eskaton Dilu Road, Mirpur’s Tolarbagh, an area of Uttara 14 sector, certain portion of Kazipara, certain portions of Central Road, Polton, Ashkona, Noyatola, Senpara, Mirhajirbagh, Nondipara Bridge, Dhanmondi 6, Shout Tolarbagh, Mirpur 13 DESCO quarter, Kutubkhali, West Maniknagar, Narinda, Islampur, Green Life Hospital, Soarighat, and some other parts and roads of the capital.

These areas will be kept under the surveillance of the police, no one will be allowed to visit these areas. All kinds of shops will also remain closed during the lockdown.
