Australia announced an 18-member squad for the three-match ODI series ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Travis Head has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series as Matt Short earned was called into the squad. With experienced duo Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith have returned for the Aussies.

“Head will undertake further medical review on return to Australia before a return to play schedule is determined,” CA said in a statement.

Short, who made his international debut in South Africa earlier this month, has earned a maiden ODI call-up, joining fringe members Tanveer Sangha, Spencer Johnson and Nathan Ellis in the squad.

Marnus Labuschagne, who could eventually replace Head in the squad if it comes to that, will be in India as part of the ODI squad against India. Tanveer Sanga and Nathan Ellis, who like Marnus aren't part of the World Cup squad, have also been picked for the three ODIs scheduled across Mohali, Indore and Rajkot.

Uncapped players Matt Short and Spencer Johnson have been included in an extended 18-man group for the three ODIs scheduled across Mohali, Indore and Rajkot.

Ashton Agar, who's also a part of the World Cup squad, remains on family leave for the birth of his first child. Tim David and Michael Neser, who were in South Africa for the ODI series, won't be travelling to India.
