SM Sultan boat race held on Chitra River amid festivity

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Traditional SM Sultan boat race on Chitra River held with festive atmosphere in Narail on Satuday afternoon. A total of 16 boats participated in the event. 

Boating enthusiasts crowded from Sheikh Russell Bridge to SM Sultan Bridge as well as the riverbanks extending to about 3 km to witness the traditional event. 

Thousands of people of all ages thronged to the banks of Chitra River in the town to witness a traditional boat race.  Many people have come from five or six other nearby districts to take part in the boat race and watch.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali MP was present as the chief guest in the boat race. Among others, MP of Narail-2 constituency Mashrafe Bin Mortuza, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mokammel Hossain, Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Tourism Board Md. Jabed Ahmed, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Ismail Hossain, Superintendent of Police Prabir Kumar Roy, District Council Chairman Advocate Sohrab Hossain Biswas, District Awami League President Advocate Subash Chandra Bose, General Secretary Nizam Uddin Khan Nilu, Boat Race general secretary Ashikur Rahman Miku, Narail Municipal Mayor Anjuman Ara were present as specials gueasts. Deputy Commissioner of Narail Md. Habibur Rahman presided over the function.
