Engineer SM Shahidul Islam began working as director general (DG) of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) on Sunday (August 20), says a press release.
Prior to joining the present post, he was working as additional director general (eastern region) of BWDB. He became the additional director general of the BWDB in February this year.
SM Shahidul Islam was born in 1965 at Dakshinnagar village under Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur. He is a member if Institution of Engineers’ Bangladesh (IEB).
He obtained SSC from Dinajpur Zilla School in 1980, HSC from Dinajpur Government College in 1982 and BSc in Civil Engineering from the then BIT, Rajshahi (now RUET) in 1987.
He joined the Bangladesh Water Development Board in 1989 as assistant engineer (civil) in Rangpur Quality Control Department.
During his over 33 years of service in the BWDB, SM Shahidul Islam participated in various seminars and trainings in Italy, Germany, Philippines and Singapore.
