While addressing the opening ceremony of International Migrants Day-2020 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina rightly said that overseas job seekers should attain required skills and have accurate information about their job before going abroad.

It is needless to say that migrant worker can earn even more money and secure their jobs if they attain required skills through training before going abroad. In this regard, the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry and especially the recruiting agents have to play a more responsible role.

It is time to  incorporate more vocational

training centres  in order to

produce and send more skilled workers abroad

Reportedly, the government has integrated various schemes to provide migrants workers with required training. We have come to know that some 100 technical training centers at upazila level would be opened soon. Also, the government has set up digital centers across the country to train the migrant workers but it is disheartening to note that most of the overseas job seekers do not take the training sincerely before going abroad.

There is no denying that the tempo of the country’s remittance inflow has remarkably progressed over the last years. But at the same time it is also undeniable that if we can send more skilled workers in new and potential destinations, the remittance flow will increase manifold in the future. We must ensure proper training for foreign job seekers before sending them abroad.

There is a huge demand for skilled workers like computer operators, graphics designers and medical equipment operators abroad. Hence, the government should give more emphasis on the need for grooming and employing skilled hands and diligent personnel abroad. It is time to incorporate more vocational training centres in order  to produce and send more skilled  workers abroad.
