Six more die of dengue

Six more people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours till Monday morning, bringing the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 421 this year.

In the same period, 1,083 new dengue patients were admitted to nationwide hospitals, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the period, 84 dengue patients were hospitalised in Barishal 

ivision, 107 in Chattogram, 280 in Dhaka division, 244 in Dhaka North city while 115 in Dhaka South, 145 in Khulna, 58 in Rajshahi, 36 in Mymensingh, four in Sylhet and 10 were admitted to different hospitals in Rangpur division.

As per the DGHS record, 16 people died in January this year, 

five in February, six in March, two in April, 12 in May, eight in June, 14 in July and 30 in August, 87 in September, 135 in October and 106 in November.

Since January 1, 2024, Bangladesh has reported a total of 81,068 dengue cases. 

Last year saw the highest recorded number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease, with 1,705 fatalities. 

The DGHS also documented 321,179 dengue cases and 318,749 recoveries in 2023, making it the most severe dengue outbreak in the country’s history.
