A court in Khulna on Tuesday sentenced six people to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Khalishpur area in the city in 2009. The court also fined Taka 30, 000 each, in default of which, the convicts will have to serve in jail for another six months. Judge of Khulna Metropolitan and Session Court Mahmuda Khatun handed down the verdict in presence of all accused. The convicted are Sheikh Moshiur Rahman alias Moshi, Md Aslam Hossain Liton, Md Sweet, Ashraful, Md Sahid and Md Mintu.
Court sources said the criminals hacked Azizul Islam, residence of Nayabati Tayeber Mor area under Khalishpur Police Station in the city on September 29 in 2009 following previous enmity. Local people admitted him to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries on next day.
Sheikh Zalal Uddin Raju, cousin of the deceased, filed a case with Khalishpur Police Station in this connection.
On February 28 in 2010, investigation officer of the case and sub inspector Abdur Rahman pressed charge sheet to court accusing the six.
