Six AL leaders including Godagari Mayor expelled

Six leaders of Godagari Municipal Awami League including the Mayor of Godagari Municipality have been expelled from the party for their alleged involvement in breaching the party discipline. 

Recommendations have been sent to the Rajshahi district AL and the Central AL leaders for the permanent expulsion of the leaders. Those six leaders were expelled for being candi dates in ensuing Municipal polls in Godagari and for campaigning for the rebel candidates. 

Those six expelled AL leaders were identified as the incumbent Mayor of Godagari and rebel Mayoral candidate, Member of municipal AL Monirul Islam Babu, General Secretary of Godagari Municipal AL Rabiul Alam alias Alam, Organising Secretary MA Shahin, Religious Affairs Secretary Tariqul Islam Hoda and member Mozibur Rahman, informed an organisational notice signed by Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Siam, Organisational Secretary of Municipal AL on Monday. The notice mentioned, the expelled AL leaders became the candidates against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina nominated Mayoral candidate Wayezuddin Biswas and were working for the rebel candidates which created confusion among the party leaders and activists and breached the party discipline. 

A meeting of Executive Committee of Godagari Municipal Awami League held on January-27 took the decision of expelling the rebel candidates and their supporters from the party.  

The decision of expulsion of the AL leaders has also been sent to them through separate letters. 

It is learnt, the polling of Godagari Municipality will be held on February-14. Incumbent Mayor Monirul Islam Babu is contesting with the symbol 'Cocoanut tree' in the election in violation of the party decision. No reaction about the decision from the six expelled AL leaders was immediately available.
