One lane of the newly constructed Nalka Bridge on Bangabandhu Bridge Western Link Highway in Sirajganj has been opened for traffic. North Bengal-bound vehicles will ply on this lane from Dhaka. This will reduce the fear of traffic jams.

The bridge was opened to traffic on Monday (April 25) afternoon.

The new tube bridge Dhaka-North Bengal lane was opened for traffic by the project director of Sasek-2 project. Waliul Islam. Additional Project Director Md. Golam Muturza, Executive Engineer of Sirajganj Roads and Highways Department Didarul Islam Tarafdar, Project Manager of Contractor Mir Akhtar Hossain Limited Ekhlasur Rahman and other officials of Roads Department were present at the occasion.

It may be mentioned that vehicles from 22 districts of North and South Bengal pass through Dhaka via Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj. The risky and narrow bridge over the Phuljor River on this important highway, built about 40 years ago, was extremely congested. A new bridge was constructed under the Sasek-2 project to cope with the increasing traffic congestion on the highway.

A 269-meter-long bridge and a lane of one-kilometer approach road on both sides were opened on Monday to alleviate the suffering of Eid-bound passengers. From now on, one lane of the new bridge will use vehicles from Dhaka to North Bengal and all vehicles from North Bengal to Dhaka will use the old tube bridge.
