Akbar, a well-known vocalist, was admitted to hospital with various complications including diabetes and kidney disease. He is undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College Hospital in the capital, said Kaniz Fatema, the artiste's wife.

Then, when he fell seriously ill last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave Akbar a grant of Tk 20 lakh for his treatment. He is currently undergoing treatment with the grant money.
