Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 16.3 kgs of Indian silver worth about Tk 3 crore from Thakurpur border under Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district on Saturday.
In a press release,Commander of Chuadanga-6 BGB Battalion Lt. Col. Sayed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman said on Saturday morning he learned that a consignment of silver would enter Bangladesh from India through the Thakurpur border of Damurhuda Upazila.
Based on the secret information, Habildar Md Shaukat Ali, patrol commander of Thakurpur camp on the border, took a position in ThakurpurKadamtala market with a joint force. At that time, the BGB patrol team chased an unknown person on a motorcycle on the road towards Karpasdanga within one and a half kilometres from main pillar no. 89 of the border of Kadamtala area. At that time, the smuggler left the motorcycle and ran away in the field.
Indian silver weighing 16.3 kgs (1,397.46 Bhoris) was seized from a polythene bag wrapped with scotch tape inside a plastic bag attached to the carrier hook on the left side of the motorcycle. The estimated value of the silver is about Tk 3 crore. In this regard, the process of depositing the confiscated silver in Chuadanga Treasury office is under process.
