Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi said silk and weaving industries are important elements of the history and heritage of the Bengali nation. The present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to make this industry modern and world class.
This industry will be modernized to highlight its heritage worldwide. The use of technology in the production of silk yarn will make the weaving industry more standardized.
He said this while addressing a meeting of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Silk Development Board at the conference room of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute on Wednesday.
The Minister said, “The excellence of technology is essential for making high quality silk cloth at low cost. Those involved in this industry need to be provided with advanced training. Even after imposing about 60 percent tax on yarn imported from abroad, it is not getting along with the competing countries.
So we may have a technical deficit somewhere. We need to find the problems. With the help of technology, we have to try to solve the problem accordingly. So that we can produce better quality yarn and cloth.”
At that time, the minister said, “Rajshahi means silk of Rajshahi. The government will make arrangements to sustain it. That is why everyone involved in this industry has to come forward. The government is determined to modernize and make the silk industry profitable under the direction of the Prime Minister.”
MP Fazle Hossain Badshah, Secretary of Textile and Jute Ministry Md. Abdur Rauf, Director General of Bangladesh Silk Development Board Shyam Kishore Roy and others were present on the occasion.
