On the fifth death anniversary of Abrar Fahad, the Bangladeshi student who was brutally murdered by members of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in October 2019, a short film titled ‘Room No 2011’ has been released.
Abrar, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was killed in Sher-e-Bangla Hall for opposing Indian aggression in a social media post.
The short film, directed by Sheikh Jisan Ahmed, a student from Jahangirnagar University, features around 100 student actors and aims to highlight the tragic events surrounding Abrar’s death.
Released by Jisu Entertainment on their YouTube channel on Monday, the film quickly went viral after
its teaser and posters were shared online.
Although the name Abrar Fahad is not explicitly mentioned in the film’s promotional material, the director confirmed that the project is based on the true story of his murder. The film's title refers to the dormitory room where Abrar was tortured and killed.
Jisu Entertainment described ‘Room No 2011’ as their first original work, stating that the film will be released simultaneously in Bangladesh and the United States.
Following Abrar’s murder, students at BUET erupted in protest, leading to the university’s decision to ban student political activities on campus. While the killers were convicted in a lower court, the family continues to demand swift justice, as appeals in the high court remain unresolved.
