Short film festival to begin in Dec

The ‘Fifteenth International Short and Independent Film Festival’ will be held in Dhaka on December 7. The festival, organised by Bangladesh Short Film Forum, will run for 7 days. It will show more than two hundred films selected from about 500 submissions from 45 countries.

Official selected short-length films, German Contemporary short films, French films, Lithuanian films, African films, FTI films, CIS films, retrospectives, tribute and Asian Independent films will be screened at the festival.

Besides, films will compete in the Best Independent Short category for Fiction, Documentary, NetPack Jury Award and Tarek Shahriar Best Independent Short.

In the retrospective category, eight full-length films by Indian makers Kumar Sahani and Kamal Swaroop are to be screened. The festival is dedicated to Abbas Kiarostami, Maya Darren, Jonas Meeks, Agnes Bharda, Mrinal Sen, Saidul Anam Tutul, Anwar Hossain.

Kumar Sahani will take a master class on December 10 on the movie ‘Mise-en-scène’. Kamal Swaroop will address the Alamgir Kabir Memorial Lecture on December 9. This year's festival will feature two workshops on independent filmmaking and screenplay writing.

Film exhibitions, seminars and workshops have been organized in the National Public Library, National Museum and Art Academy throughout the duration of this festival. One of the main attractions of this festival is the screening of films made by the judges of the competition.
