Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam left for St Lucia on Monday to join the Bangladesh squad for the second Test match against the West Indies starting on 24 June.

Shoriful was approached by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon for his inclusion in the squad.

"I came to know about it (that I am going) yesterday and I was mentally prepared for it after Papon sir called me and said that I am going," said Shoriful.

"I have not played there (West Indies) but what I have seen is that if the ball is pitched in the right area there is an advantage and so I will try to maintain the right line and length," he said.

The 21-year-old was excited about the opportunity of bowling with the Dukes ball in the West Indies.

“I have heard a lot of things about Dukes balls but still have not touched it. When I will reach there hopefully I will get the chance to have a look at the ball (Dukes), and I am very excited,"

Bangladesh left-arm quick was carrying a right-hand fracture from the middle of Sri Lanka series which ruled him out from that series and also from the first Test against West Indies.

The 21-year-old has played 4 Tests for Bangladesh since making his debut in April 2021.

Bangladesh were without their prime pacer, Taskin Ahmed, already. Shoriful's injury forced BCB to bring Mustafizur Rahman back in the Test side.

Bangladesh trail the series 0-1 after losing the first Test in Antigua by 7 wickets. The second Test will begin on 24 June.
