Chairman Shippers' Council of Bangladesh Md. Rezaul Karim expresses his gratefulness to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for announcing a total financial package of Tk727.5 billion to save the businesses and livelihoods impacted by Covid-19 and Tk 5000 cr. to extend wage support to workers and employees in the export-oriented industries.
He also appreciated the Bangladesh Bank for enhancing EDF upto 5 billion US dollar in 2% interest rate until further order. Md. Karim said, this package will help maintain normal economic activities of the Country and will also help the private sector and export-oriented sectors.
He suggested that the incentive support be paid on a turnover basis. On the other hand, he requested to stop collection of all types of tolls while transporting export & imports goods during this period and to waive the demurrage charge of Ports, Airports along with ICD/ Off doc and ICT. He hoped that, implementing the steps taken by the government, the country would be able to get through this difficult time.
