Bangladeshi filmmaker Suborna Senjutee Tushee-directed ‘Meenalap’ (Soliloquy of the Fishes), a Bangladesh-India short film, will be screened followed by a discussion today at the National Art Plaza auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.
‘Meenalap’ is about the transformation of life while living in a lonely city and about hope.
The film revolves around a Bengali couple migrated from a remote village of West Bengal to Pune city, working in a garment factory and struggling to meet the ends while expecting a child.
The film delves into the psychological changes of them in the realm of urban alienation in absence of own family and culture while becoming a mother and a father from husband and wife for the first time.
The cast of the film includes Titas Dutta, Pramito Dutta, Vivek Kumar, Devas Dixit.
The film won many awards, including Grand Prix (Best film award) in the 14th Eurasia International Film Festival in 2018; Critics award in the 8th Didor International Film Festival, Tazikstan in 2018; Best Film Award in the 6th Siliguri International Short & Documentary Film Festival; Best Short Film Award at the 17th Third Eye Asian Film Festival in Mumbai; ‘Ritwik Ghatak Golden Award’ for Best short film at 2nd South Asian Short Film Festival in Kolkata this year.
The film was also screened at 4th IAS International Film Festival in Dubai, 19th Asiatica: Asian Film Festival in Rome, 11th Documentary and Short Film Festival, Kerala and others.
