Shilpakala celebrates monsoon thru dance and music

Monsoon was celebrated through songs, dances and poem recitation at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Thursday.

A significant variety of artistes along with the artists of BSA were scheduled for the event which started with an instrumental music performance, followed by a welcome speech by BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky. He said, “We have six magnificent seasons in the country, but as we live in the urban area, we cannot truly enjoy it. The artistic elements that we have put together inspired from the six seasons are quite rare in the world.”

The music performances began right after the speech. The academy’s music troupe began the cultural show rendering a Tagore song ‘Mon Mor Megher Shongi. Following which, artistes presented a dance recital synchronised with the Nazrul song ‘Porodeshi Megh Jarey Phirey’.

There were both solo and group performances in the programme.

In solos, eminent artistes such as Rafiqul Islam, Ruksana Rupsha, Suchitra Shutradhar, Abida Rahman Shetu, Hirak Sardar, Rafi Talukder, Abu Bakar Siddiq, Himadri Roy, Nabanita, Mohona Das and Yasmin Mustari rendered songs.

Krishti Hefaz recited a poem on monsoon.

Dancers presented colourful dance recitals synchronised with a Tagore song Sawan gagane ghor and a Nazrul song Porodeshi megh jarey.

Rachel Priyanka Perris performed a solo dance recital synchronised with recitation by Nima Rahman and instrumental recital by Shemonti.

Besides, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s children troupe performed Aji jhoro jhoro mukhoro badol o diney and the academy’s Baul troupe rendered Amitra megher bari.

‘Such programmes can make the younger generation aware about our culture and seasons. I hope the academy will continue organising such programmes regularly,’ said renowned singer Rafiqul Islam.

The show ended with a group dance performance synchronised with Sachin Dev Burman’s song Barney ‘Gandhey Chhandey Gititey’ and a group rendition of the Tagore song ‘Gahaney Ghana Chhailo’.
