Local people of Sonaimuri upazila under Noakhali district have demanded to shift the tomb of Bir Shresto Ruhul Amin from Rupsha of Khulna to his village home at Sonaimuri.
On December 10 of 1971, valiant freedom fighter Engine Room Artificer of Bangladsh Naval Ship (BNS) Palash, Ruhul Amin embraced martyrdom in an encounter with the marauding Pakistani army in front of Khulna Shipyard at at the bank of the Rupsha River. He was buried at Baghmara village, eastern side of Rupsha river.

People of Sonaimuri upazila and family members of the martyr have demanded to shift the tomb of Bir Shrestho Ruhul Amin at his birthplace in Noakhali. Local people also expressed their anger as there was no establishment by the name of Bir Shrestho Ruhul Amin in Noakhali. They also demanded to nationalise the Bir Shrestho Ruhul Amin Academy School and the Bir Shrestho Ruhul Amin Degree College situated at his village.
They further mentioned, Bir Shrestho Ruhul Amin Museum and Library was established at the village Amin Nagar in 2008 but that was also in a deplorable condition. They demanded to appoint a caretaker for the Museum and Library and to keep it open.
Tonmoy Das, Deputy Commissioner of Noakhali, assured to take proper measure in this connection. Meanwhile, Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin’s 48th death anniversary was observed with due respect. Death anniversary of another martyr Mohibullah, Bir Bikrom, was also observed.
Bangladesh Navy in Khulna Headquarter has chalked out different programmes to observe the 48th death anniversary of the two great heroes in befitting manner. The programmes include placing flower wreath at their graveyard, discussion, doa mahfil and recitation from the Holy Quran.
