Chandrakala Theater group will stage the play ‘Sheikh Saadi’ based on the life of the Persian poet at the Ganga-Jamuna cultural festival. They will perform the play at 7pm today at the Experimental Theater of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Apurbo Kumar Kundo wrote the play and it will be directed by HR Anik, who also stars in the titular role.

During his time, the young king of Delhi Muhammad Muhammad Bulban organized a conference of twenty poets, where Sheikh Saadi received an invitation as the chief poet.

During his time, Delhi’s crown prince Muhammad Bulbon organized an international conference twenty poets, where Sheikh Saadi received invitation as the chief poet.

Sheikh Saadi's most beloved friend, Delhi-based poet Amir Khasru wrote the letter and invited him from the bottom of his heart to confirm Sheikh Saadi's arrival. Although Sheikh Saadi had travelled to Delhi multiple times in the past, he could not accept the invitation due to old age. Nonetheless, he was pleased to have been honoured by the state and touched at his friend’s heartfelt invitation.

Another reason for not being able to go to Delhi was that Sheikh Saadi wanted to spend his last days in the city of Shiraz, where he grew and spent his adolescence and youth. Though he did not attend the conference, he sent his Bustan and Gulistan and other written works to the visting state guests from Delhi in honour of the crown prince and his poet friend.

The play centers on these true events in Sheikh Saadi’s life. The narrator at the beginning and the end of the play is ITI's Ramendu Majumder. The play’s production superintendent is Mamunur Rashid and music will be given by Hamidur Rahman Papu. Fazle Rabbi Sukorno is the stage manager and the stage assistant is Mahmudul Hasan Masum. Lighting will be done by SM Angan and Kazi Nazrul Islam.
