Bangladesh Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul-Alam Hanif, MP said the barbaric killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's youngest son Sheikh Russel is a symbol of brutality.
"Bangladesh came into being under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Thirty lakh martyrs sacrificed their lives and two lakh women sacrificed their supreme honour for this country. We cannot let this country to go haywire from the spirit of liberation war. We have to teach our young generation about this history," he said.
Hanif came up with the observations while addressing as chief guest National Child Art Competition marking the 59th birthday of Sheikh Russel at Dhaka University Faculty of Arts premises on Friday. Cultural and social platform Gourab 71 organized the competition.
Presided over by Gourab 71 president SM Monirul Islam Moni, the function was conducted by its General Secretary FM Shahin.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Samad, Awami League Industries and Trade Affairs Secretary Siddiqur Rahman, National University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Moshiur Rahman, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University, Kishoreganj Vice Chancellor ZM Pervej Sazzad and Bangladesh Awami League Central Executive Committee Member Adv Sanzida Khanom, were present at the function among others.
Around 700 children took part in the competition under three categories.
