Sheikh Russel memorial rapid chess tournament 2021 held

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with Bangladesh Chess Federation, organised a day-long Sheikh Russel Memorial Rapid Chess Tournament 2021 on Saturday at the Foreign Service Academy as part of its greater observance of the upcoming Sheikh Russel Dibash.

Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, Grand Master Niaz Murshed and Grand Master Ziaur Rahman were present at the event. 

Sheikh Russel was the youngest child of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He was 10 years old when he was killed along with the other family members on August 15, 1975.

The Foreign Minister appreciated the initiative taken by the Ministry. 

He also shared his own experiences with the game while encouraging the young officers to take interest in Chess citing its staggering similarities with Foreign Office’s actual works.

 Masud Bin Momen also emphasized on the importance of Chess for diplomats.
