Sheikh Russel Metropolitan School Football Tournament has started at Chattogram Metropolitan Police Lines Ground this initiative of Chittagong Metropolitan Sports Association on the occasion of Sheikh Russell's birthday.
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury announced the inauguration of the tournament as the chief guest on Wednesday afternoon.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir presided over the function. The special guest was Md Ruhul Amin, Managing Director of Saif Powertech Limited. CMP Deputy Commissioner of Police (Port) Mehedi Hasan delivered the inaugural address.
CCC Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, “Thanks to the organizing committee for the enthusiasm we see in our children. This arrangement will seduce anyone in this situation. The younger contestants are preparing for the competition by wearing different types of jerseys. The national players will come up from here. Hundreds of Russel's will be born through this event,” he said. They will establish this country as a country of gold, a country of sacrifice.
Police Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir said, “After a long time, it seems that the field has come back to life. The chirping of the teenagers made the field festive. Through such an arrangement, it will be possible to build the Bangladesh of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Rahman's dream. I will try to organize this every year.”
The best 32 school teams selected from the schools located in Chittagong metropolis are participating in this tournament. Central Public School competed with Nasirabad Government Boys High School in the opening match at Dampara SAF Ground. In the other match, Khan Saheb Abdul Hakim High School faced Dilwara Jahan Memorial School and College at Dampara POM ground.
Four venues will host 64 matches of the entire tournament. The final game of the tournament and prize distribution will be held on October 18, Sheikh Russel's birthday.
