Sheikh Kamal was pioneer of modern sports in Bangladesh: Imran Ahmad

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad on Saturday said that Sheikh Kamal, the martyred eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was the pioneer of modern sports in Bangladesh.

The minister said this while addressing as the chief guest the opening ceremony of Sheikh Kamal Inter-School and Madrasa Athletics Competition-2023, a joint initiative of Bangladesh Athletics Federation, Goainghat Upazila administration and Upazila Sports Association of the district Saturday morning.

Nationwide 'Sheikh Kamal Inter: School and Madrasa Athletics Competition' has been organized the name of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was the pioneer of modern sports in the country, he said.

Goainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and president of Goainghat upazila sports organization Tahmilur Rahman presided over the function.

Goainghat upazila parishad chairman Mohammad Faroq Ahmad, Goainghat government college principal Md Fazlul Haque, assistant commissioner Bhumi Tanveer Hossain, upazila agriculture officer Raihan Parvez, Goainghat Upazila Parishad Female Vice-Chairman Afia Begum, Sylhet Zilla Parishad Member Subas Das, Sylhet District Awami League Member and Freedom Fighter Lutfur Rahman Lebu, Goainghat Upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary and Nandirgaon Union Parishad Chairman S Kamrul Hasan Amirul, Lengura Union Parishad Chairman and Goainghat Upazila Sports Association General Secretary Md. Mujibur Rahman, among others, were present at the function.

Earlier, the minister visited Goainghat Model Mosque which was built at a cost of Taka 15 crore and he, later, distributed combine harvester machines to two farmers and power dresser to 5 farmers of the upazila.

The district level games will be held from February 1 to 5 and the divisional level games will be held from February 9 to 13.
